7th of August It's time to nominate members for the member spotlight, so make sure you do so. This can be found on the 'News and Announcements' board. It would be much appreciated if everyone participated.
8th of July I added a promotional video to the site. The footage and audio are from the television show 'Lost', I only edited clips together. I hope you like it! Enjoy!
6th of July A sub-board in the 'Plug Board has been added for members only. Some more songs have been added to the soundtrack too.
3rd of July As you can see I've added small graphics around and within the side tables. I think that they neaten the side tables up a bit more and hopefully make everything look a little more organized. I've also added another role play location to the island and a new background to the current skin. I hope you like the new things added to the forum. Enjoy!
+ During the day it is usually humid and hot.
+ During the night it can get pretty cold.
+ Despite the climate, it has been known to rain off and on.
+ Free role play can take place.
+ The survivors have been stranded for nearly two weeks, rescue still hasn't come.
+ They are starting to learn more of each other.
This is the soundtrack of the island. Although the battery power of the teenagers i-pods may have taken their last breaths and died, that doesn't mean that the survivors can't have a soundtrack describing their feelings and experiences on the island. To listen to some of the songs press play and scroll through the songs that interest you. If you think that a song needs to be here, PM me, Larnie (aka Layla and Audrey) and I'll see what I can do. All songs must relate to our characters and their pasts, experiences and feelings or the island itself, as well as relationships and bonds forming on the island.

Don't wanna hold you back now {Layla, open} « Thread Started on Jul 8, 2008, 9:11am »
"Aww, damn it." Leon grunted, as one of the poles he had buried in the sand fell over, not having been properly buried enough. He picked it back up, shoving the end back into the wet sand, where he had lined it up next to four other poles in a row. Another four poles were placed next to the former ones, and once Leon was assured the poles were secured, he started tying another series of smaller poles horizontally across them.
He had been on the beach all morning, having already placed a very large tree log parallel to the structure he was working on now, which came up at about waist height on the average person. Most of the survivors had been watching him work on it for most of the day, but no-one had approached him yet about it.
As he fastened the wooden poles together, he thought about the current situation. With all the food they were rationing, it was only going to be a few more days before theyran completely out of food. Which meant people would have to fish, forage, or in Leon's case hunt.
But would they get enough food to prevent the rest of the survivors from fighting over it? He thought deeply about their options as he secured the first pole, reaching down to pick up the second.

Layla wandered about the camp on the sand, her fingers intertwined with one another, her expression was thoughtful and dreamy as she wore a grin on her face. She was thinking about Nikita and how things were going rather well for them lately. Layla was in a delightful mood. As she walked through the camp she bared a friendly smile to whoever she walked by, despite whether she liked them or not, she was far too happy today to keep a straight face.
As Layla walked by she noticed a man that wasn't so happy. Leon, she thought his name was. She had heard it being thrown around camp every now and then, particularly by Zavier. Being in an excellent mood, Layla decide to approach Leon (or whatever his name was) and see if he needed assistance with whatever he was doing. He appeared to be building some form of structure. "Hey there." She greeted as she reached him. "Need a hand?" Layla asked, a friendly smile placed on her lips.

Leon muttered under his breath some more as he realised the twine he was now tying around the wood he was trying to keep together needed to be cut so he could tie the next knot. He was about to risk letting go of the rope he had just tied to see if he could go get it, when he heard someone call out to him.
He turned his head, and saw the a brunette girl approach him... it was Laura? No, Layla. Zavier had mentioned her name when he had first met him, describing her as the girl who had amazing physical strength, and that she always 'hung around with that Russian guy, Nikita'. Because of that, Leon had been even more hesitant to approach her more recently, because whenever he saw her they were together and he felt like he was getting in the way of something where he was not invited. He did say to Zavier though they had been here a week, and would try to make more of an attempt to get to know her.
"Hey. Yeah, thanks. See the the knife on the log?" he pointed, over towards the tree-trunk that lay next to what he was building. "Think you could pass it to me, please?" he sighed, sounding a bit tired, but smiled a little faintly in response to Layla's pleasent expression. Something about the girl seemed to be shining from her expression, she was more happier than he had ever seen her, but he couldn't place what it was exactly.
Then again, this sunny place did seem to give people sunny expressions. Because her smile seemed to make him smile, too.

Layla attention moved to the knife on the log as Leon asked her to hand it him. "I can do that." Layla replied with a smile as she bent down to pick up the knife. She held it by the handle and passed it over to Leon, quickly realizing that passing the knife to him with the blade sticking up probably wasn't the best idea. Smiling sheepishly she twirled the knife swiftly, catching the knife safely between the tips of her fingers. "Here you go." She added, aware that she was showing off a little, but it was all in good fun, a way to exercise her happiness today.
"You're Leon right?" Layla asked, pretty sure of herself, but she thought it was best to seek confirmation. "What are you building here anyway?" She added curiously, wandering to herself whether she was asking too many questions at once.

Leon raised an eyebrow in responce, his smile broadening to a grin. He didn't know why, but there was something about this girl's smile that was infectious. Then again, most girl's smiles were to him. "Are you sure? It's tricker than it looks." he decided to break the ice, adding a little subtle humor. She gave him the knife, and watched as she twirled it, looking at it before looking at her. "Well, I'm impressed, you can do it. And with expert skill, apparently. You know how to work your way around with that kind of knife?" he asked, nodding at the blade, which indicated it was a hunting knife.
"And thanks." he added, starting to cut the twine he was using, tying up the next junction of wood together. She asked his name, and he nodded to confirm it. "That's right. You're Layla, right?" he asked, being polite enough to pause in his work to hold out a hand for her to shake. "With the food going down faster than we can supply it, I thought we should make a camp kitchen, so that's what this is." he explained to her. "The log over there is meant to be where people can prepare their food or sit down and eat, and this here is going to be a shelf. I couldn't find anything decent enough in the wreckage, and I don't have the tools to drill them properly, so I have to make do with what we have."
He finished the second knot and cut it, starting on the third. "On the shelf here, we can put the food out in the open for everyone to see and share, since we can't lock it up. So if we notice more food's gone than usual, we know who's been here." he added, cutting the twine used for the third knot and started on the fourth. One side for the first shelf was already done.

Layla smirked humorously at Leon's little ice breaker. Her smirk then changed to an amused grin as he asked her about her knife skills. "Well you shouldn't be impressed because I haven't hunted anything in my life. That little trick you just saw was nothing special. Whenever I have alot of free time on my hands I get bored, twirling knives is one of the skills that my boredom has developed." Layla replied, smiling sheepishly.
Layla felt slightly relieved by the fact that she had gotten Leon's name correct. "That's me." Layla replied with a smile as she shook Leon's hand briefly when he extended it. She examined the structure that Leon had begun to build, an impressed expression on her face. "Nice idea. Looks good so far." Layla commented. "Anything I can do besides passing you tools." She added with a smile, a cheeky glint in her eyes.

"Oh really? Oh well, at least it looks cool, right? But if that's all you can think of doing in your free time, I suggest you find something that's actually worth doing, unless you want to entertain people with it." Leon smirked, starting on the pole that would support the other side of the shelf as a bracket, tying up the first knot.
He shook Layla's hand, glad to finally put a name to a face. Zavier had mentioned a few things about her that she might have found personal, but he decided to keep them to himself, it really wasn't any of his business. He cut off the first knot and smiled when Layla complimented on his work. "Thanks. I'm also thinking on making a roof as quickly as possible between these trees around us to shelter the food when it rains, and maybe after that I'm going to build a proper counter and a dining table." he told her, tying and cutting off the second knot.
He laughed as she offered to do something more than pass him the knife he needed, quickly starting on the third knot. "You could stand around and look pretty, but that's pretty much useless." he replied back cheekily to her, saying it lightly and offhandedly so she wouldn't read too much into it. He looked around as he finished the third knot and considered what she could do.
"See those planks of wood over there?" he asked, gesturing with a nod of his head some planks he had salvaged from the crash site. "You could get two that fit and start sliding them onto these brackets I'm making now. Then we'll tie 'em down, and that's the shelves done." he offered to her. "Or, if you like, you could start looking around in that pile for the right size of wood we need for the counter and the dining table, maybe even the kitchen roof. If you don't want to get your hands dirty." he smiled, starting on the fourth and final knot. He was almost done, so she better hurry up and decide what she wanted to do.

"When I am bored, that is sometimes the only thing worth doing." Layla replied with a laugh, a smile placed on her lips. "But you would think I'd find something better to do huh?" She added.
"Wow, that's cool. Maybe you could build us an entire kitchen? That'd be pretty awesome." Layla replied humorously, but at the same time impressed that Leon was building all this stuff. She knew that she wouldn't be able to build anything like this alone. "Are you a builder or something back home?" She asked curiously, still in the same light tone.
Layla rolled her eyes playfully at Leon's comment about just standing there and looking pretty, but listened in as he instructed her on what she could do. Layla was fairly eager to help at this point. "I don't mind getting my hands dirty, I'm more of one of the guys rather than one of the girls." Layla replied with a laugh. "And I can help with both if you'd like?" Layla added, picking up a plank of wood with ease and holding it up to Leon. "This one good for the shelves?"

"I'd say. And looks like now you've found something better." Leon smiled suggestively, finishing on the fourth and final knot, cutting the twine off with the knife as he did. The brackets for the top shelf were done, but he checked them over one more time to make sure the knots were tight and wouldn't come undone under weight. He redid a few knots just to be sure.
"Hey missy, don't push your luck. Maybe, and if you're a good girl." he laughed, starting on the knots for the brackets for the bottom shelf. Tedious work, starting on the first knot on one side. But Layla's company had seemed to make the workload lighter, if not more fun. When Layla asked if he was a builder, he shook his head. "Nah, back at home I lived on a farm, so on quiet days me and my dad would make shelves for my mom, fix the roofing, extend the barn, small stuff like that needed doing. This is probably the biggest thing I've built by myself... until you came along and ruined everything." he added with a humerous smile, finishing the first knot.
"You're more one of the guys? Are you sure? Maybe the doctors got it wrong the first time around." he smirked, trying to stifle a laugh as he finished and tied off the second knot, working on the third knot now. As Layla suggested she'd help with both and held up a light plank for him to inspect, he laughed again out loud, shaking his head. "What, are you blind? Yeah, that plank's good - if you want to use it as firewood." he grinned with cocky sarcasm, really getting a rhythm to the knot tying and finishing the third knot, starting the fourth. "If it's easy for you to lift, it's light, meaning it's dense, meaning it's going to snap like a toothpick the moment you put weight on it. Try one of the heavier and longer pair over there." he explained to Layla professionally, a confident smile on his features, finishing and cutting off the fourth knot. Even though he was picking on her like no tomorrow, he was surpirsed by how quickly he was getting the work done. Maybe they'd even eat off the dining room table tonight, at this pace.

"Looks like it huh?" Layla replied with a grin as she watched Leon as he tended to the knots on the bracket of the shelf. While Nikita was still on Layla's mind, Leon seemed like a cool, laid back guy that she could easily see herself befriending, so she looked forward to hanging out with him, he seemed to exercise her current happiness.
Layla held her hands up in the air in a surrendering position. "Okay, okay." She replied, a humorous grin spread across her lips. "Ah so your a farmer boy eh? But those are some good qualities to have." Layla replied, a smile still playing on her lips. "Well I'm sorry I ruined your little record." Layla added humorously as she glanced at the shelves again.
"Not literally of course." Layla replied to his gender comment with a laugh, unable to hold it in, she was amused, she gave Leon that. Layla smiled sheepishly as she picked up a wrong piece of wood, she was definitely inexperienced with this kind of things. "Well can you blame me? I'm a city girl, I've never built anything close to this before." She defended herself lightly, dropping the current piece of wood in her hand to replace it with a piece that was more appropriate.

"Yep, looks like it." Leon agreed, smiling, walking around and starting on the first knot on the opposite side of the bottom shelf. He was enjoying this, he had to admit to himself. Layla was a fun, easy-going girl he could see becoming a casual friend or even more, she was funny at times and he felt relaxed and more like he could be himself when he was around her.
He laughed as he put her hands up in a surrendering position. "Good girl." he praised in a humerous manner, finishing the first knot and now on the second. Man, was this getting tedious. "Yep, I'm a small-time country-boy through and through. but thanks for the compliments. And it's fine," he replied to Layla's mock apology, "... just don't let it happen again." he added a little cockily, joking all the while.
He finished the second knot and started on the third, looking over at Layla. "Well, that's a huge relief you're not literally a boy, or otherwise I'd be disturbingly confused how you're one good-lookin' guy." he smiled back at Layla, not sure if he had offended or complimented Layla before the words came out of his mouth. He looked away sheepishly and finished the third knot, starting on the fourth. "Well yes, I can blame you, it looks like the biggest thing you built as a city girl was a sandwich." he smirked, nodding at the plank of wood Layla held up, that was one of the pair he had pointed out. "Well congratulations, you might be of some use after all, you've found the right one. Slide that plank of wood in on the top shelf, if you don't find that too hard." he grinned, finally finishing tieing off the fourth knot, and stepped over to pick up the other plank next to her with a smile on his lips and in his green eyes.
